Copying a Folder from the Student Resources CD

Most of the skills in this textbook require you to open an existing file. The student data files that you need for each skill (or chapter/module assessment) are organized in folders on the Student Resources CD that accompanies this textbook. On the first page of each module requiring data files, a folder icon and instructions direct you to copy the necessary folder from the CD to your storage medium.

Copy a folder from the CD to your storage medium (such as a USB flash drive) by completing the following steps:

  1. Insert the CD that accompanies this textbook in the CD drive.
  2. At the AutoPlay window that displays, click the Close button located in the upper-right corner of the window.
  3. Insert your USB flash drive in an available USB port. (If an AutoPlay window displays, click the Close button.)
  4. At the Windows desktop, click the Start button on the Taskbar.
  5. Click Computer in the right column at the Start menu.
  6. Right-click the CD drive (displays as Guidelines-Student-Resources) in the Content pane and select Open in new window.
  7. Click the desired module folder in the Content pane.
  8. Click the Organize button in the toolbar.
  9. Click Copy in the drop-down list.
  10. Click the drive representing your storage medium in the Navigation pane (located at the left of the Computer window).
  11. Click the Organize button in the toolbar.
  12. Click Paste in the drop-down list.
  13. Click the Close button to close the Computer window.

Viewing Skills Videos from the Student Resources CD

The Student Resources CD contains videos that demonstrate the steps for each skill in the textbook. To run the Skills Videos, your computer needs to have a web browser and the Adobe Flash Player plugin installed. Flash Player is available free of charge from Adobe online at get.adobe.com/flashplayer.

To watch a video, follow these steps:

1. Insert the CD that accompanies this textbook in the CD drive.

2. If an AutoPlay window displays, click Run StartSkillsVideos.html in the window and go to Step 3.

To manually run the Skills Videos, complete these steps:

a. At the Windows desktop, right-click the Start button on the Taskbar and select Open Windows Explorer.

b. Double-click the CD drive (displays as Guidelines-Student-Resources) in the Content pane.

c. Double-click the SkillsVideos folder in the Content pane.

d. Double-click the StartSkillsVideos file to open the Skills Videos interface in your default web browser.

3. Click the desired book module and click the desired chapter, if there is one.

4. Click the skill number to open that video in a new browser window. While the video is playing, you can pause, rewind, go forward and backward in the video with the controls at the lower-left corner of the video window.

5. When the video is complete, close the video window or click the Close Window link below the video player controls to return to the list of Skills Videos.

How do I get an Educator account for the IRC?

Educators need a password to access the Internet Resource Center. If you are an Educator, follow these steps to request a new Educator Account and gain access to Educator materials:

K-12 Educators

  1. Go to http://emcschool.net, click on Internet Resource Centers and select the appropriate book.
  2. Click the Change Login button in the toolbar directly below the program header.
  3. Click the Request Teacher Account link in the Log In dialog box.
  4. Enter your information in the required fields in the New User Registration dialog box. The fields with an asterisk require an entry. When you have filled in all the required fields, click the Submit button.
  5. A message will appear alerting you that EMC Publishing has received the request and will email your user name and password by the end of the next business day. Click the OK button.
  6. Click the Cancel button to close the Log In dialog box.

Post-Secondary Educators

  1. Go to paradigmedu.emcp.com and click on Log In.
  2. Click on the Create a Profile button and create your account.
  3. Your Account Manager will be automatically notified of your account creation.
  4. Your Account Manager will contact you with Log In credentials to access your IRC content.
  5. If you have created an account and have not been contacted, you may contact your Account Manager directly. Click Here to use our Account Manager Locator.


How do I log in as an Educator?

Once you have received your password, use these steps to log in as an Educator:

  1. Click the Change Login button in the toolbar directly below the header image.
  2. Type your user name and password in the appropriate text boxes and then click the Log In button.


How do I log in as a Student?

Students may need Log In credentials to access the student materials for books such as T’es Branche? Or Zhen Bang!.

  1. If you are a Student you will need to request Log In credentials from your Teacher.

How do I retrieve my password?

K-12 Educators, if you forgot your password and need a new one, follow these instructions:

  1. Click the Change Login button in the toolbar directly below the header image.
  2. Click the Forgot Password? link.
  3. Type your user name in the text box in the Forgot Password dialog box and then click the Submit button.
  4. A message will appear informing you that a new password has been sent to the email address you provided when you registered. Click the OK button.
  5. Click the Cancel button to close the Log In dialog box.

Post-Secondary Educators

  1. Please contact your Account Manager to have your Log In information resent to you. Click Here to use our Account Manager Locator.


How do I choose or change my state?

Some of our Internet Resource Center titles contain state-specific resources. If the title contains state-specific material, you will see the name of the state that is currently selected in the toolbar directly below the header image. Next to the listed state is the Change State button, which is used to change the selected state. If the title does not have state-specific material, the state name and the Change State button will not appear on the toolbar.

Follow these steps to choose or change your state:

  1. Click the Change State button in the toolbar directly below the header image.
  2. Click the arrow next to the Select State drop-down list in the Select a State dialog box.
  3. Use the scrollbar to locate your state, and then click on the state name.
  4. Click the Save button.
  5. You should now see the name of the state you selected displayed on the toolbar below the header image.
